South of River

This area encompasses the neighborhoods that line the river on the southside in the City of Richmond. There are homes in all price ranges with riverfront/view commanding the highest. Resale homes range in age from the 1960s to new construction.

 

This area is convenient to downtown and an easy commute to Carytown, Museum District as well as to the shopping in the far west end. Neighborhoods are Stratford Hills, Westover Hills, Oxford on the James, Oxford, Cherokee Estates, Traylor Estates, Villas at Archer Springs, and James River Common to mention a few.

Bon Air in Chesterfield County is included in this search as it is physically an extension of the city areas described above, but is part of the Chesterfield School system. Bon Air began as a Victorian resort for Richmonders eager to escape what were then the unsanitary and unpleasant conditions of the city during the hot summer months, thus the name Bon Air (good air). Today, the Victorian houses of yesteryear still exist along with homes in all price ranges and ages.
